SFI: Claim using Skippy Scout

Claim up to £70 per hectare for nutrient management and/or weed management using Skippy Scout and the SFI.

  • Claim up to £70 per ha via SFI

  • Save up to £100 per ha on inputs

  • A lot less field walking required!

Defra have recently announced several new SFI options for summer 2024. These actions are still awaiting more detail, however by using Skippy Scout you could claim up to £70/ha over a 3 year agreement period.

Skippy Scout can provide two key services that you would be eligible to claim on the new SFI options. Additionally you’ll make savings on inputs, all with a lot less field walking required!

  1. Variable rate application and nutrients - How to
    SFI claim: £27/ha | N savings: up to £60/ha
Skippy Scout provides fast, accurate GAI measurements on OSR and Cereals. These GAI measurements can be captured quickly and automatically, regardless of cloud cover, and delivered within minutes; allowing applications to be carried out immediately. View a case study here

  2. Remote sensor guided herbicide spraying - How to
    SFI claim: £43/ha | N savings: up to £44/ha
Skippy Scout provides fast, accurate field overviews that show weed patch locations within the field. These can then be ground-truthed by automated, close-up image capture from the drone, allowing for targeted application instead of field-wide. Captured quickly and automatically regardless of cloud cover, and delivered within minutes, applications can be carried out immediately. A break down of the potential costs and savings:

  • Skippy Scout will cost £1000 per year for a farm up to 1000 Ha in size

  • A drone system will cost ~£3000

Scenarios

Wheat Nitrogen Applications

  • Claim £27/ha via SFI

  • Save up to £43/ha on Nitrogen costs using Skippy Scout GAI measurements, view the case study

  • A combined potential saving of £70/ha

On 100 ha of Wheat with the combination above, you could gain £7,000, minus 1st year drone and software cost this would be a gain of £3,000 in year one.

OR you would need to farm 60 ha of Wheat to breakeven in year 1.

Claiming SFI only, you would need to farm at least 150 ha of Wheat to breakeven.

OSR Nitrogen Applications

  • Claim £27/ha via SFI

  • Save up to £60/ha on Nitrogen costs using Skippy Scout GAI measurements, view the case study

  • A combined potential saving of £87/ha

On 100 ha of OSR with the combination above, you could gain £8,700, minus 1st year drone and software cost this would be a gain of £4,700 in year one.

OR you would need to farm 50 ha of OSR to breakeven in year 1.

Claiming SFI only, you would need to farm at least 150 ha of OSR to breakeven.

OSR Herbicide Applications

  • Claim £43/ha via SFI

  • Save up to £44/ha on Herbicide costs using Skippy Scout, view the case study

  • A combined potential saving of £87/ha

On 100 ha of Wheat with the combination above, you could gain £8,700, minus 1st year drone and software cost this would be a gain of £4,700 in year one.

OR you would need to farm 50 ha of OSR to breakeven in year 1.

Claiming SFI only, you would need to farm at least 100 ha of OSR to breakeven.

OSR Nitrogen & Herbicide

  • Claim £27/ha + £43/ha via SFI. £70/ha

  • Save up to £60/ha on Nitrogen costs + £44/ha on Herbicide costs. £104/ha

  • A combined potential saving of £174/ha

On 100 ha of OSR with the combination above, you could gain £17,400, minus 1st year drone and software cost this would be a gain of £13,400 in year one.

OR you would need to farm only 25ha of OSR to breakeven in year 1.

Claiming SFI only, you would need to farm only 60 ha of OSR to breakeven.
